What are the benefits of a Funeral Plan?

We are very proud of the standard of service we provide to the people of Worcestershire, and these high standards apply to our pre-paid funeral plans too.

The benefits of a funeral plan include;

  • You choose your own funeral arrangements, for your own peace of mind.
  • You will save your family from having to make difficult decisions, trying to guess what you would have wanted at such a distressing time.
  • All options are clearly specified and E Hill and Son Funeral Directors fees are fixed.  Our plans also include Third Party fees (for example crematorium fees, doctor’s and minister’s fees).
  • You can also select a burial plan option, but as cemetery fees vary so widely, there may be an additional fee to pay.
  • Your money is invested in a separate trust, in your name.  It will be used to pay for your funeral when the time comes.
  • The funeral service will be provided by E Hill and Son, a privately owned Funeral Directors with a well established reputation.
  • There is no upper or lower age limits and no health questionnaires.
  • You can choose to pay for your plan in one lump sum, over 12 months interest free or in low cost monthly instalments.

If you would like us to send you a brochure, please complete your address details and press send.  Please indicate whether the service is for burial or cremation.

    Frequently asked questions

    We’ve highlighted some popular questions below,
    but you can always speak to us in person too.

    Our telephone number is 01386 552141

    Our funeral plans are offered in conjunction with Golden Charter, who are one of the UK’s leading funeral plan providers, working with over 3000 independent funeral directors.  Once you have paid for your funeral plan, your money is paid into The Golden Charter Trust which is run by an independent board of trustees, who manage the trust on behalf of the plan holders.

    Golden Charter is registered with The Funeral Planning Authority and follow its code of practice. Further, they are recommended by The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF).

    Our funeral plan charges are split into 2 categories;

    Funeral Directors Charges – these are guaranteed within your plan.  These include;

    • Bringing the deceased into our care
    • Use of the chapel of rest until the day of the funeral
    • Your choice of coffin
    • A Hearse
    • Any following limousines
    • Our professional fees for arranging and conducting the funeral, within legal guidelines and as your wishes specify.

    Third Party Costs – These are specified within each plan and include;

    • Crematorium fees
    • Doctors fees
    • Minister or Celebrant fees

    You will not be asked for any further contribution towards these costs provided the terms of the plan are complied with.

    A plan for burial is also available, but this may be at additional cost depending on whether you already own a burial plot.  Please speak to us and we will be able to advise you further.

    Funeral plans from E Hill and Son are totally personalised to you.  Whether you wish for a simple, dignified service or would prefer a more lavish, grand affair, your plan will always reflect your wishes and will incorporate all the personal touches you want to include.

    Our aim is to completely understand what your wishes are, and tailor-make the funeral service to reflect this.  You can specify certain pieces of music to be played, include your favourite readings and poems, ask people not to wear dark coloured clothing at the service, or request that the cortege takes a certain route on the day of the funeral.

    When you take out a plan with us, you will receive a membership pack containing all the details of your bespoke funeral plan. When the time comes, your family simply needs to contact us and we will take care of all the funeral arrangements.

    We always advise people who have taken out one of our funeral plans to tell a close family member or executor that they have done so.  We can provide an additional copy of your arrangements for them to keep safely should you wish us to do so.

    You can pay in one of 3 ways;

    • One off payment in full
    • Pay over 12 months, interest free with a deposit of £49.00
    • Low cost monthly instalments with a deposit of £49.00

    With our low cost monthly instalments, you can spread the cost of your plan over a time period to suit your budget.  The only thing we ask is that the plan is paid for in full by the time you reach your 80th birthday.

    There is no minimum or maximum age for taking out a funeral plan with E Hill and Son.

    This depends on the type of payment method you have chosen.  Our key features document contains more information relating to this.  Please telephone us on 01386 552141 to request a copy.

    If you move house, you just need to let us know your new address.  We will inform Golden Charter for you.

    Even if you move to a different area of the country, your plan can move with you.  With a network of over 3000 independent funeral directors throughout the U.K. Golden Charter can recommend a local funeral director in the area you are moving to.

    For all payment methods, if you cancel within 30 days we will refund the payment you have made.

    If you choose to make a single payment or pay by 12 monthly payments and you cancel after 30 days, you will receive a refund of payments made less a cancellation fee of £249.

    If you are paying by low cost instalments and cancel after 30 days but before you have made 12 payments, you will receive a refund of payments made less a cancellation fee of £249.Your plan cannot be cancelled after 12 months. If you stop paying after 12 months, your plan will remain in place and no refund will be made. When you die, the funeral director will receive all money you have paid in, less the £249 administration fee, as a contribution towards your funeral.

    If you cancel after 30 days and pay by the fixed monthly payment option, you will not get anything back.

    As all of our plans are totally transferable, you are able to do a “joint” plan.   The plan would cover the first person to pass away.

    As long as your funeral wishes are the same (for example, you both wish to have a cremation service), we would ask for one name to be placed onto the plan documentation.  When the first person passes away, this plan can then be transferred and the funds used for the funeral arrangements.

    Yes, you can take out a plan on behalf of somebody else.

    Should you have elderly relatives, and they would prefer for you to make their arrangements for them, we would ask you to be the “representative” for the plan.  We can also make arrangements for you to receive all the plan paperwork on their behalf.   Please telephone us to discuss this in further detail.  Our phone number is 01386 552141.

    Yes, provided that the plan is paid for in full, it can be transferred to someone else, should the need arise.
